Checker has had a rough existence. Shortly after appearing, it because the duty of every unsupervised boy that walked by it to try to pry off tiles. Maybe there's a high resale value to slightly used 1" tile, who knows. The irony here is that a installation of un-approved art (read: vandalism) has fallen victim to the destructive form of vandalism.
Checker is still there, but I'm pretty sure he's a few tiles short of a mosaic, if you know what I mean.
