Indy Space Invader No. 6 - Xaxa

Xaxa quietly watched all of the graffiti artists make some beautiful art for the Subsurface 2004 exhibit in Broadripple. When the paint was dry, it mounted its invasion in a carefully orchestrated, color-coordinated attack.

Xaxa likes eating ice cream in the rain, art you don't have to buy and stickin it to the man.

Xaxa appeared on September 7, 2004.

Indy Space Invader No. 5 - Flame

Sadly some invaders are too ambitious for their own good. Flame's chosen place to appear was in a VERY high traffic area along the Monon Trail. It was a risky move and Flame paid the price by being completely evicted from its place only a few weeks after appearing. Flame may be gone for now, but who knows maybe it'll find a better home some day.

I guess it's true, the flame that burns twice as bright, burns half as long.

Flame appeared at the intersection of the Monon Trail and 86th Street on July 20, 2004.

Indy Space Invader No. 4 - Zoidberg

Zoidberg (so named because of its minor resemblance to some type of crustacean or another) has probably has the least amount of damage done to it by humanity. Wind and rain will still take its toll, but Zoidberg seems to have found a relatively safe home among the Indianapolis Art Center Arts Garden.

Zoidberg was a completely original design, and appeared on July 10, 2004.

Indy Space Invader No. 3 - Checker

Checker has had a rough existence. Shortly after appearing, it because the duty of every unsupervised boy that walked by it to try to pry off tiles. Maybe there's a high resale value to slightly used 1" tile, who knows. The irony here is that a installation of un-approved art (read: vandalism) has fallen victim to the destructive form of vandalism.

Checker is still there, but I'm pretty sure he's a few tiles short of a mosaic, if you know what I mean.

Checker appeared on July 10, 2004.

Indy Space Invader No. 2 - Squidle

Squidle is my favorite of the invaders that have appeared in Indianapolis thus-far. It's a great design utilizing a small number of tiles, yet it still seems to have it's own personality. Positioned at the entrance/exit of a pedestrian bridge, this invader has a very high noticeability to people walking by.

Squidle appeared on July 4, 2004.

Indy Space Invader No. 1 - Atari

I've named this invader Atari, since his design was based on the design of one of the original invaders in the the Atari version of Space Invaders. This was the first invader that appeared in Indianapolis and is still in existense, to the best of my knowledge.

Atari appeared on July 2, 2004.
